What's your ER plan?

Whether you have inhibitors or care for someone who does, you must be ready for an ER visit.

Not all ER staff know how to treat people with hemophilia with inhibitors. They may not understand the potential dangers of delayed treatment.

It is important for your health that you do not delay treatment for bleeds. Following these steps will help you get the rapid treatment you need.

These steps will help get treatment quickly:

    • If possible, go to the ER—even if you only suspect a bleed
    • Bring your medicine and other supplies you may need
    • Call your doctor and hemophilia treatment center (HTC) and have them contact the ER
    • Have phone numbers for your doctor and insurance information on hand
    • Be persistent—check in at the front desk every 5 minutes you are in the waiting room for an update on when you will get medical attention
